Postnatal Care
Many of our patients have commented that whilst they felt wonderfully supported during pregnancy and birth, once they got home with a brand new baby, it was a different story. The most important thing when you are learning to look after your baby is to have consistent, encouraging, available support. We know how daunting it is going home with a brand new baby, and also how reassuring it is to know that kind, experienced, professional help is at hand.
I have always been aware of the need for continuity of support for our new parents, and felt sad that I didn’t have the capacity to provide postnatal home care. I can still clearly remember taking my eldest daughter home, and feeling the enormous weight of responsibility for this new little life descend on my shoulders as I closed the front door! Now, when you leave hospital, The Birth Team is able to put you in the very capable hands of our dedicated postnatal midwifery team, who will support and help you while you get the hang of being a mum.
The midwives who are going to help you have many years of midwifery experience, are up to date with current practice, and are mothers themselves. They are kind, easy to talk to, and very down to earth.
We aim to replace the NHS midwifery visits, or supplement them – whichever you feel most comfortable with. We can give you the time and flexibility that an overloaded NHS service can’t offer, however much it would like to. We will give you time to ask all the questions you want, to help and advise on feeding, bathing, sleeping, any aspects of babycare as well as checking you both over and making sure you’re well. Sometimes all you need is reassurance that you are doing a great job!
*The service is available to all mothers – whether you have had your babies at other hospitals, NHS or privately, with The Birth Team or without. Please try to book as early as you can.
Fees
The cost of 10 hours pre-booked postnatal care is £750. This includes 10 hours of time with your midwife, usually in one hour visits, plus one home visit in pregnancy so that you can meet. There is no rush; your time can be used in the best way for you over a three week period. Some mothers might want a visit each day for 10 days, some may want to spread it out over a longer period. Usually more visits are helpful in the first week to 10 days. Telephone support is included.
Parents who already have a child can find life is very different with two children; our visiting service is for all parents, not just first timers, as we can give you lots of support and survival tips for the first weeks.
You can pre-book anything from 3 up to 10 hours of care at £70 per hour plus £50 for a home visit during pregnancy. Pre-booked packages include a home visit during pregnancy, and postnatal telephone support. The visits can be spread over 3 weeks or used over the first ten days, however works best for you.
From experience, we would recommend that first time mothers would get the most benefit from the full package, particularly if breastfeeding support is needed.
Single visits
(If booked after you have had your baby)
This can be anything from a one-off visit, 3 visits or as many as you need.
One visit of 1 ½ hours + 2 follow-up telephone calls £140
