Birth
Your baby will be born in the Delivery Suite of Watford Maternity Hospital, one of the largest maternity hospitals in the South East of England. It has an excellent neonatal unit and superb surgical and medical back-up facilities should complications arise. Standards of care and cleanliness are high. We will support your choices in the kind of birth you want, and will keep you informed all the way
Many people ask ‘what if two women are in labour at the same time?’
Well, it would be very unusual for two women to arrive at exactly the same time. It has not happened yet, but there are two of us as well!
After your baby is born, you will be transferred to a private room on the Knutsford Suite. Mr Sheridan will visit you regularly whilst you are an inpatient, and will liase with the midwifery staff to co-ordinate your care.
You will be entitled to NHS community midwifery care for yourself and your baby once you have gone home. This will all be arranged for you on your discharge from hospital. If you would like private postnatal home care or breastfeeding support, this can be arranged via Sarah.
Mr Sheridan and Sarah will see you for your six-week postnatal check up at Spire. This includes a full physical examination and is included in the fee for full care patients. If you are due to have a smear it can be done at the same time as part of your care package, although there will be a laboratory fee payable. Your baby will need to have his or her six-week check at your GP surgery. (If not entitled to NHS care, you’ll need to register yourself with a private GP)
If he is on annual leave, Mr Sheridan will always make sure there is another consultant to cover in his absence, who will care for you with Sarah. If Sarah is away, either Lucy or an NHS midwife from the labour ward will look after you with Mr Sheridan.
